Join our Journey!
Southland Inspiration…
Published by on March 20, 2011 in ReGeneration
Ever been to Southland? First time for me, and we’ve just finished the week with the ReGen two-day Youth Jam at Colac Bay Marae. Young leaders from Te Anau, Riverton, and Invercargill gathered to share ideas, stories, and get creative – epic.
Ever heard of a ‘food forest’? Imagine a dense jungle-like area in your own backyard – but almost all of the plants are edible. Apples, plums, blueberries, artichokes, a plethora of fresh vegetables and herbs – the list goes on. A love for the land. A love for fresh organic food, and an incredible example of what’s possible in your own backyard – meet the Guytons from Riverton!
I finally had a day off – or a half day at least. It’s crazy how much I love this project – completely absorbed. But to work well I’ve come to the realise the importance of self-care, rest and relaxation. Here’s my reflections on the journey so far:
On another note, good friend and fellow ReGen roady crew member and colleague Iain Frengley has put together this short clip. Zane Smith doing what he loves, living the dream on the West Coast. This clip is just part of a 90-second ‘changemaker’ series he’s putting together along the roady – you can find more here.
Now high on life and well energised, the crew is excited about getting on the road again – next stop Dunedin. Inspiring Stories next two-day workshop Thursday & Friday!
ReGeneration Summer Jam!
Published by on January 28, 2011 in ReGeneration, Workshops
It’s like when musicians get together for a jam – everyone brings an instrument and collaborates to create something fresh, unpredictable, and exciting. In early January, 120 passionate young Kiwi’s – all intent on changing the world, gathered @ Living Springs in Christchurch for a week of madness. The skills and the stories were epic, and the projects & plans ahead for large-scale action are exciting – the most inspiring crew of people ever!
As part of the week, we prototyped the first ‘Inspiring Stories’ workshops. This was three 2-hour, pressure-cooked sessions – and an awesome learning curve. We had four teams each make a short 2-3 minute film, get a taste for good storytelling, and learn some sweet new skills. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity, and feeling solid on the year ahead – cheers team!
Planning… and, Celebration!

Everyday I’ve found myself with a massive grin – absolutely stoked to have been hooked up such an incredible opportunity. Since the awards night in Wellington it’s been full on – sharing the vision with all sorts of people, groups & prospective partners – frothing, and watching it grow. The response so far has been really positive, and I’m feeling very lucky to have such good mentors (notably Malcolm & Lani)!
Amongst the planning we’ve taken time to celebrate – here’s a shot from the dinner party with some of the ReGeneration National Roady crew at Lani’s place on Monday night. The image below from left to right shows myself, Iain Frengley, Billy Matheson, Lani Evans, Jill Hayhurst, & Giles the dog. Thanks Billy for the awesome home cooked feast!
In a similar fashion, we’ve had some quality time with our youth-led film production company crew Splashroom Media. The crew is amped on the 2011 year ahead, and all of the exciting & constantly evolving outcomes to grow out of the ReGen roady. The image below shows the crew from left: Edi Saltau, Ollie Lucks, Iain Frengley, & me in the front

So now I’m off to Wellington, for the second official ReGen national roady planning summit over the weekend – I think there’s about 30 of us rocking up – yew!
